welcome.
I am a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) with over 9 years of experience in Vancouver, BC. My practice is focused in perinatal health with an emphasis on prenatal massage therapy. I have had the honour to provide labour and birth support to my pregnant clients, and although I am not currently taking on birth clients I utilize that knowledge in my massage therapy practice. I value evidence-based care and often find myself taking more continued education courses than required by my regulatory college. Learn more about me here.
What is RMT?
In British Columbia, Massage Therapy is a regulated healthcare profession in which practitioners undergo between 2200 and 3000 hours of experience at an accredited institute before successfully completing 3 competency-based written and practical board exams. Massage therapy students have a medical-based education consisting of more than solely massage techniques but also anatomy, biology, chemistry, neurology, pharmacology, pathology, orthopaedics, and more.
The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of dysfunction, injury, pain and physical disorders by manual and physical methods to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function to relieve pain and promote health. Registered Massage Therapists, or RMTs, are trained in general Swedish massage, myofascial techniques, joint mobilizations, therapeutic exercise, and hydrotherapy with many more options available with the profession's mandatory continuing education standards.
